Any ideas folks??

My sewing is going from strength to strength...I think!
I am totally into it and am loving the fact that I am making something and can see the end product. I have only been practising really but now feel I am ready to sell my handmade things. Steady on, don't all excited just yet dear reader....I am only making tote bags and little purse type things. Remember, I am the sewing phobic who didn't know one end of a sewing machine from the other. I am getting confident now and even sewing without a pattern...whoo hoooo!

A friend asked me to make a nice bag for her friend who was expecting a baby. I was thrilled to have been asked and I have to say, I was really happy with the end result. I didn't charge her anything as I was happy to make it and the material cost me nothing either.

Another friend said jokingly that she needed a new peg bag with a loooong handle. I made her one for her birthday. She was delighted with it and has told everyone about it and me and my making.

So how do I sell these things?? A website? A shop on ebay? I have no idea but would be grateful for any hints and tips anyone may have! I am looking out for craft fairs at the moment what with Christmas fast upon us!

PS I am not posting this to ask for customers. I really do need to find out how to sell these bits.

Sounds like you've made excellent progress! I don't know much about selling, particularly online - but the local W.I.-run country market near me has stalls for crafts, and I've seen bags and pegbags on sale there. Good luck!

Local Flea markets are a good idea..And E Bay works well,especially this time of year if you make little hand made bag's and fill with sweeties..they seem to sell quite well

Excellent start!

Word of mouth is great. Perhaps you could print out cards and ask your friends to distribute to people who admire your work. The cards could include a URL to your web page ( blogger.com or freeewebs.com ) for prices and details.

Well done you! It is very satisfying when you make something.

I'm into knitting. I find it very relaxing and have just discovered this fabulous pom pom wool. It makes fabul-arse soft scarves that are very warm - so guess what everyone is getting for Xmas this year??!!

Ebay's probably the best place to go - doesn't cost much to start selling and is easy to use.

fantastic stuff I have just brought myself a cheap sewing machine and am thinking about givign it a try as for how to sell them dip your toe into ebay and just see how it goes but a craft show would be a better idea although you need alot of stock for one of them good luck though and let us know how you get on

Ebay is fab but remember to price them right to include your time as well as materials! Craft fairs are also fab and usually quite cheap to get a table at, you could do a local market but it would be working on a saturday and as you already do a full week would be a lot so I reckon ebay is your best bet by far - and really good luck with it x

  This is another problem I have....just how much do you charge?! I have no idea of what to charge and I don't want to "give" the stuff away but also don't want to charge too much and put folk off!

    If you want to do it as a business you will have to charge the costs obviously plus so much for your time - a realistic price for the time each bag takes to be honest - but to test it out you could take a bit less and say it is an introductory offer x
